EPA Selects Kemron-Arrowhead JV for Award of Newton County Mine Tailings Superfund Site Remediation Project

Kemron-Arrowhead JV, a joint venture between Lenexa, KS-based Arrowhead Contracting, Inc. and Atlanta, GA-based Kemron Environmental Services, Inc. was selected through a competitive procurement for award of the Newton County Mine Tailings Superfund Site Remediation of OU1 and OU2, located in Spring City/Spurgeon Subdistrict, Newton County, MO. The project will be carried out as a multi-year task order under the EPA Remediation Environmental Services (RES) CLIN 2 ID/IQ Program. The Contract will be administered by EPA Region VII.

The scope of work to be performed under this project consists of providing all labor, equipment, and materials to excavate and transport contaminated mining wastes and soil to a central repository. The mining waste is comprised of differing sizes of rock and chat, to fine sand and silt material. The contamination has washed down through the layers of waste and exists in the upper levels of the underlying soils. The site limit of disturbance is approximately 350 acres and approximately 1,250,000 cubic yards of rock, chat and soil, to be relocated.

The project will commence in late 2020 and be completed over a five-year performance period. The project value is approximately $30M.
