Residential Remediation Chicago

Arrowhead was awarded a Fixed Unit Rate contract to conduct a CERCLA residential soil cleanup at a former Roofing Tar Manufacturing Site, now an EPA Superfund site.

Arrowhead removed 9,000 cy of PAH contaminated soil at 169 residential properties in downtown Chicago.  All properties were cleaned up to residential standards and restored to “better than before” status.

Arrowhead performed site remediation activities including site preparation, excavation of exposed soils, stockpile management, T&D, backfilling, and property restoration.

Arrowhead utilized several innovative methods of excavation that included a combination of vacuum excavation, micro-excavation and manual labor.  Access to many   property sites was so challenging that excavation methods required manual excavation using shovels  and wheelbarrows to remove more than 140 cy of soil per location.

Because of Arrowhead’s ability to effectively manage costs and adapt to a challenging project environment, an additional 28 residences were remediated and project was still brought in $340K under budget.
