Ft. Leonard Wood MOUT Facility

Arrowhead was awarded a firm-fixed price contract by the USACE Kansas City District to construct a 17-structure complex for the Department of the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The $4.7 million facility was constructed on a 4.3-acre site and included both intact and rubbelized structures.

The MOUT Facility was designed to serve as a mock city for training of various Government agencies in the conduct of anti-terrorist activities and other military operations. The facility was constructed such that various deployment and attack approaches could be simulated. Training scenarios included access via street level entrances, access via a 650-foot network of underground tunnels and ventilation systems, and vertical envelopment. The complex also included a classroom, storage facility, and a concrete access bridge across an engineered ravine.

All construction activities were completed in strict accordance with detailed construction specifications included as part of the award. A total of 89 construction submittals were prepared during the execution of the work scope. Construction of the MOUT Training Facility was completed on schedule despite the fact that 40% of the contract days were impacted by adverse weather.

Urbandale Public Library

Under a $7M firm-fixed price contract with the City of Urbandale, Iowa, Arrowhead provided construction management services for a new 55,000-square foot public library. The library design included three towers: the main tower at the front entrance which has 40-foot ceilings and slate stone floors; the west tower including a 35-foot tall fireplace; and an octagonal south tower.

The library structure features a steel frame with a sloped roof and contains over 400 tons of structural steel. The exterior of the building is a limestone and brick veneer. Exterior window systems are custom kynar finished aluminum frames and paneled with insulated glass. An aluminum standing seam roof completes the building. The mechanical system is a central plant system with a chiller, boiler, and air-handling units with DDC controls. The electrical system features an under-floor duct system to provide data/power to the open circulation areas of the library.

The library was completed over three months ahead of schedule and received the American Libraries April 2001 Room to Grow award, showcasing new library construction efforts throughout the U.S.

Richards Gebaur Barracks Renovation

Under an ID/IQ MATOC with the USACE Kansas City District, Arrowhead was awarded two firm-fixed price design build task orders for construction renovations at three Marine Corps facilities located at the Richards Gebaur ARS in Belton, Missouri. The project was valued at $3.8M.

Arrowhead replaced exterior siding at three building locations (Buildings 250, 6045, and 710) and replaced the roof at Building 710. Existing E.I.F.S. siding was removed, damaged and weathered sheathing and window framing was replaced, new insulation was added, and a new exterior finish consisting of stucco and veneer brick base was constructed. All glass surfaces were covered with explosion-resistant film.

The new roof consisted of a metal standing seam and constant slope bitumen roof and included new through-the-wall scuppers, conductor heads, and downspouts. Arrowhead also provided interior, exterior, and mechanical renovations at Building 243. The scope of work for the exterior renovations included replacing exterior sheathing and windows, replacing the existing overhanging wood soffit with maintenance free material, and adding new gutters and downspouts. Intermediate railings were also added to the existing exterior exit stairs as required to bring them into code compliance.

The project received an Outstanding CCASS rating and letter of commendation from the Client.

Langley Air Force Base Athletic Facility

As a Team Member under an AFCEE Prime Contract, Arrowhead was awarded a firm-fixed price subcontract to construct a new outside athletic facility featuring a 6-lane, 400-meter rubberized asphalt running track. Additional features of work included site preparation, utilities, bleachers, a 40-car parking lot, a 50-pole lighting system, and minor masonry buildings.

This project was the Air Force's first Air Force Future First Planning (F2P) project for the development of a previously impaired property (Landfill 07). This project transformed a closed landfill into a state-of-the art-running track adjacent to a world-class fitness center.

Due to the inherent high water table at the construction site and the close proximity of regulated wetlands, disturbing the landfill cap and/or impacting the adjacent wetlands with site drainage was restricted. Arrowhead worked closely with our client to design and construct site modifications that included an underdrain system that was installed over the landfill cap. The running surface was elevated three feet above natural elevation resulting in limited cap intrusion and controllable storm water discharge.

NOAA National Seafood Laboratory

Under a Nationwide Design-Build MATOC, Arrowhead was awarded a $1.7M design-build task order to provide accelerated construction of the interim National Seafood Testing Laboratory in Pascagoula, MS. Following hurricane Katrina, NOAA lost substantially all infrastructure and facilities in the area.

Arrowhead was required to erect and renovate multiple modular buildings into a 15,600-square foot analytical laboratory and 3,000-square foot supporting office complex. Other key elements of the facility included construction of a full service sewer lift station, installation of multiple 4,000 psi concrete piers to support the building, installation of 1,000 lf of potable water, fire suppression, sanitary sewer, natural gas, electrical and communication infrastructure. Due to a lack of suitable commercial building sites following the hurricane devastation, it was necessary to locate the laboratory complex at the Naval Station Pascagoula, a 3.5-square mile island located 2 miles south of the Gulf Coast.

Due to a lack of available work force and materials in the area, Arrowhead imported personnel, material, and equipment from offices and vendors throughout the country to meet the aggressive completion schedule.

OSAGE ARC Operational Maintenance Shop

Under an ID/IQ MATOC with the USACE Kansas City District, Arrowhead was awarded a Firm-Fixed Price Design-Build Task Order for the construction of a new Operations Maintenance Shop (OMS) and expansion of an existing Military Equipment Parking (MEP) area. The project was implemented to provide the necessary facilities for the unique maintenance and storage requirements of the Oshkosh M1070 Heavy Equipment Transporter. The project includes a pre-engineered steel building, concrete pavement, administrative office exterior lighting, gates and fencing, oil water separator, compressed air system, water, sanitary, gas, electric and communications systems, utility extensions/connections, landscaping, and signage.

The OMS is a pre-engineered building measuring 24 feet wide by 100 feet long on an 8-inch concrete slab. The exterior walls are 8-foot single wythe split-face CMU. A combination of solid metal and translucent wall panels are provided above the masonry. The gabled roof is standing seam metal and includes ridge caps, soffit, gutters, downspouts, vents, louvers, fascia, and trim. The building includes two 16 feet x 16 feet steel sectional overhead doors with heavy-duty power openers. Interior components include an 80-foot long floor trench which drains into an oil/water separator, an emergency shower/eyewash station, air compressor with piped air drops, a vehicle exhaust system, and an emergency exhaust system designed to provide 10 volumetric air changes per hour.
